Government of Canada vs. PM Stephen Harper

The conservatives have been known as a government that has a game plan to get things done. But have they gone too far recently with the whole Bev Oda dispute, the first government to be charged with 3 counts of reform, and the 30 BILLION dollar underestimate for the replacement new CF-18 jets to F-35 in a penny saving economy? Is this really the government we want to be riding? What would you like to see from new government after federal election in May?

  1. Well if you haven't already heard from the news today the official budget plan did NOT pass in parliament today. This really proves that the prime minister is not listening enough to the other party’s in the House of Commons and most importantly the Canadian people. For example Jack Layton from the NDP government stated he wanted “700-million to life low-income seniors out of poverty through the Guaranteed Income Supplement. But the Tories offered $300 million.” But there were things that were left out of the budget for example the F-35 Fighter Jets for the Canadian Air Force. Harper estimated the total price for the jets would be around 30 Billion but after further researches it was totally at a whopping 55 BILLION! Now to a normal Canadian citizen it would seem obvious to me to add an investment like that to our Budget. But firmly stating the Harper Government is NOT listening enough to the Canadian people and the Government of Canada.

  2. I personally do not know much about Canadian politics, but this sounds foolish to me. It comes down to the question of “Why does Government exist?”. According to Oxford dictionary, Government is the group of people who are responsible for controlling a country or a state. If underestimating 55 billion dollars to 30 billion dollars is what Government does to control and protect its people, I am really disappointed with Canada. I think PM Harper is trying to develop the country to be seen as externally strong country by others while the people that make up the country are suffering from problems such as low income, debts and unemployment. Harper only looks at country as a whole and he does not look inside the country. It will be interesting to see how the next prime minister will change his/her policies about administering the country in May. All Canadians would want somebody that they can rely and trust.

  3. We are probably going into an election because of the budget came out negative and non of the other three parties agreed with it. The leader of the conservative party, Steven Harper, the current prime minister will have to fight to keep his job. The conservative party seems to me that they are hiding a lot from the public and the 2011 finance bill is showing it. The idea of the fighter jets is stupid at this time when the country has a lot of debt to pay off. The people who have to pay it off is the tax payers. The Liberals, NDP and the Bloc all want to be in charge of the country but only one can be. The view of each party is totally different to one another. It all depends on what the citizens want out of their government.

  4. Is this the government we want? Looks like that will be answered in an upcoming election. I think politics is about trust in the government hearing what the people want and following through on that. In Canada we have a lot of diversity so its hard to meet everyone’s needs. Is it even possible? From budgets, to other parties needs to the public needs. The PC’s are in power now so need to please those that voted for them to be there, the opposition aren’t satisfied – how will they do things differently – will it turn out to be the same anyways.

  5. Tyler had a lot of great points when it comes to Stephen Harper staying in office. If his latest budget bill will not pass in parliament what does that say about his policies? The Canadian people want change, they are sick of getting cut for every penny on each expenditure bill. There are serious problems with the way things are being run in this country with our current system of government and without a new Prime Minister. I don't see any changes on the horizon.

  6. What, I'd Like to see would be for all the parties to actually work together for the betterment of Canada, and for that, a minority government. If we could force some accountability onto the government and take away their rights to hide information from the taxpayer that might be a different story. If you ask me, having a spring election is a complete waste of taxpayers’ dollars. either way we're going to end up having the same government we currently have.

  7. The Conservative government is set to fall Friday on a non-confidence motion, plunging Canada into a fifth election campaign in just over 10 years and possibility of early elections in May. The three opposition parties which include the Liberals, New Democratic Party (NDP) and the Bloc Quebecois all voted down on the federal budget which was announced earlier this week. "There's still a little bit of time," said the NDP leader Jack Layton. "I know that Mr. Harper and Mr. Flaherty are saying that they can't possibly talk about amending the budget. I don't know why. What's the big obstacle to that? Others have done it before."

  8. I think this was a complete waste of a money for the jets because I have a feeling that they will stay in Libya for another six to seven years. Its going to be another Afghanistan situation and is going to end up costing alot. A war will definantly erupt and I dont want my tax dollars heading toward this maniac situation. Id rather have my tax dollars go to help re-build Japan. Not only this, the next election that is coming up is supposed to cost three hundred millions dollars. Even with a new party running this country I dont see much change happening but I hope they realize the costs in the longrun to stay in Libya.
